Let’s Play Music

I have the amazing blessing of teaching music. My students range in age from 4-15 and I love every single one of them! It’s an awesome thing to sit next to a kid week after week. Music gives a unique opportunity to see the strengths and struggles in a child. It’s a joy to help them navigate through it all.

Today was our end of the semester Christmas recital. We did it at Belle Trace nursing home in hopes to spread some joy with the gift of music.

The piano kids made ornaments over the last few weeks to hand out to residents afterward. Some of the kids went upstairs and played their songs for residents that didn’t make it to the recital.

I love seeing their giving hearts!

Bravo students! I am so proud of you!

Merry Christmas!

URBeautiful Project: Widows

URBeautiful Project: Widows

Jason and I have been married for 21 years. We started dating when he was 15. He is so engraved in my story that I really don’t know what I would do or who I would be without him.

Mrs. Smith, (because we’ve never adopted Ms. Smith; it doesn’t roll off the tongue right) was married to Mr. Smith for 60 years. They started courting when they were 16 years old and married at 17. I vividly remember when he passed and through tears she told me she didn’t know what she would do without him. That was a few years ago. She has found her way.

When a dear friend of mine passed two years ago, I gained a front row seat to young widowhood. This time the husband remained with two young children in tow. They were married 16 years having married when they were 20. I’m amazed by the way this family has grown in grace and stability. He may not feel like a super-dad, but he is and their kids are incredible.

Jason is here to open the pickle jar and I am here to nurture and school the children. Our life is quite different than these two above, but they are so beautiful.

The way Mrs. Smith still bakes bread most days to hand out to others.

The way Brad cares for the needs of his kids and they feel loved, nurtured and taught.

Widows, I know the world has fallen off balance for you and you’ve adjusted to make your way. We want you to know, we think you are beautiful.

Bang Bang Bangs!

The Waterford ladies usually get their haircut only twice a year, but when the day is today, it’s exciting! I usually take the girls one at a time and make a special date out of it, but they were all overdue. The salon ran a special and we jumped on it! Yah! Haircuts all around!

We filled some fun mugs with chocolates and a caramel macchiato candy cane and headed to Mar Don Salon on Kirkwood. We have seen Miss Valerie for years and love her so! Lots of people love her, so we double booked with a new stylist, Sandi. They are both amazing and we highly recommend them!!

The girls all decided on getting bangs. For years, Ella called them fangs. So, we’ve spent the rest of the day commenting on how nice how each other’s fangs look.

What a blessing it is to have some R&R amongst a busy season of life and a busy time of year! Those complimentary facials are awesome! In fact, the girls looked so nice when they were all done, we couldn’t just go home! I surprised them with a lunch-out treat at the Bloomington Sandwich Co.!

Thank you, Valerie and Sandi, for making my girls feel cared for, special and beautiful today. I really appreciate you both!

Flags Unfurled

I am deeply patriotic. My dad retired as a US Navy commander when I was five. I remember lots of people at his retirement ceremony. A hundred sailors who’s only goal that day was to make me giggle.

We grew up with the utmost respect for the flag. It not only represents our great nation, but the great sacrifice that many give, even this very day, to keep it safe and free.

Spending the first five years of my marriage with Jason in the Navy only deepend my love and respect of service men and women and their families. It’s little pay for long days and many missed holidays and months/years with their families.

So, thank you to all branches of the US military. Thank you for your day in and day out service. We’re always thankful for the opportunity to cross paths with you.

Flipping Awesome

I don’t like to run around. We put limits on our kids activities for many reasons. Ella has waited 8 years for her turn to choose an activity to do. When the time came it was a no-brainer for her.

Our youngest loves gymnastics! Her coaches are fun and encouraging. She always fills the car ride home with all the lastest accomplishments and fellow gymnist encounters.

She looks forward to her class every week!

She was quick to ask for advent for her coaches, Kaitlyn and Amy.

Thank you Rising Star staff for the way you teach and care for our Ella! Thank you even more for only being a mile from our house.
